bluestockings31-deactivated2012 asked:

"Hey. Sorry to hear about your rat. Dudley sounds like he was pretty awesome. Glad to know another rat lover - rats can be little bastards, but they're more than worth it. Hope you're okay."

ockgal replied:

Aw, thank you. It’s amazing that it took me soooo many years to convince my mom to let me have rats and she ended up getting to like them. People have such a twisted idea about them, yet they’re so clean and smart and adorable. Dudley had that whole “I’m my own rat so back off” mentality that really fit him. Such short lifespans, but so much character.

R.I.P. Dudley

My rat Dudley died sometime last night or today. Mom dug me a hole and we buried him. It was at least nice to get to hold/pet him again (he was a biter). He was old and had health problems but never stopped being his tough little self.

Spam?

I keep seeing a lot of people who “like” my posts, but they never seem to have any comments of their own on their page, so I assume that this clue (plus the odd names with numbers at the end) means the account is spam? I get all excited that someone liked a post of mine and then bothered that it looks like a fake account.

Spent 3 hours on Facebook trying to upload photos and kept getting an ERROR for most of it. Figures. I finally get some time to catch up and can’t. Guess I’ll go grab a snack, check on the bunny and ratty, then get to bed.

I miss my Johnny.

PS - Nice. As soon as I post this, I get a spammer.

Going to Ocean City, tomorrow!

Bus trip with my mom and gram. I got up today and was so tired. Still have Auntie Flo. I showered and shaved my legs (finally) but still have to get out my backpack (I feel obligated to take it since it goes everywhere on trips), charge my camera & iPod, pick out a shirt & hat and, well that’s it, but it’s still a lot when I’m this tired, lol! Oh, have to file my nails. Okay, just did that. Johnny is feeling blah so no chatty tonight, but that’s just as well cos I don’t wanna be on too long, and I know I’d get hooked on our chat, lol! I had angel food cake (my mom made it, yesterday) and a fudgecicle with a can of Root Beer. I got up and cleaned Dudley’s cage. He was sound asleep. Then I ate pizza and played a game with mom (dad played one). Then we all visited Dinky. I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow. I don’t wanna be walking around with an umbrella and being all wet. I had a dream Johnny and I were in the basement playing with Dudley and Max. I knew Max shouldn’t have been there and it made me sad that I had to experience his death again and I started crying. Johnny gave me a tissue and comforted me, aw.

Ocean City weather for tomorrow: A few showers in the morning with scattered thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon. High 76F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

Pants or shorts? Hm. Hope I stay dry!

Rain break!

Finally had some dry-ish weather, today. Stopped at the bank to cash my checks. Went to the mall to get Dinky some rabbit food (cos she only eats the pellets out of the bin there & not the more expensive pellets which she picks around in the bag). They had a cage there in the front window which is pretty big and made of plastic. I was gonna get her another dog crate to hook to the one I already have, but she has a habit of going in there and chewing on the bars and digging at the plastic/rubber plate in the bottom corner. I was gonna order one from a magazine cos it has free shipping. One of those long wood/wire ones. The owner of the store wasn’t in just yet and only he knew the prices on the plastic cage since they were new. Mom went to get pretzels and I got us drinks. Then we went to Wal-Mart and I got a couple things (shorts for $5, shirt for $3). Got 4 sweet teas and then went home. Went to work a while later, then we got a slize of pizza (and I got an orange Crush drink), came home, got online, uploaded photos to my Facebook, ordered 150 photos (1-cent a piece plus shipping) & used the last of my Visa Gift card to buy 2g ear tunnels. Phew!

We have this area/corner in the basement where Dudley (rat) and Dinky (bunny) are, and I have cardboard around so Dinky can’t get out. (Dudley bites so he was only allowed out on the long table aka work-bench his cage is on, but he’s been sick lately and has a balance problem, so I don’t let him out cos I don’t want him to fall). Anyway, we have built-in bookshelves with space from the bottom to the floor and Dinky can get under there, so I put cardboard there. But then she digs at it. So I have a few bricks, a 10-pound dumbbell weight and some 2-liter bottles of water here and there to hold it all in place. But now the basement is leaking from all this rain and I have to move everything every time, lift the rug and put down rags and stuff in a corner where it leaks. So I was thinking of putting bricks under there. She can’t move those, and it wouldn’t be so bad if they got wet. Well just one section (out of two) would take about 28 bricks. I do wanna get a few for the smaller gap under the table, though. That’s built-in as well. My grandfather built all that stuff.

Then I was thinking, instead of getting another cage, the table has two shelves and it’s about 10-12 feet wide. Dinky likes to play in a space on the bottom shelf, but there’s a beam under the top shelf and she chews that. Yet, there are no beams on the top, just the wood walls. If I put a board in the middle, that gives it about 5-6 feet length and about 2-3 feet high (top shelf is higher). All I’d have to do it put screen and a door on the front, then use stick-tiles (they’re like under a buck at Lowe’s) and put them on the shelf/floor. My mom wasn’t really keen on the idea cos she doesn’t want Dinky peeing and chewing on something my grandfather built. I can totally understand that. I have no idea if she’d scratch at the wooden walls. She likes to dig boxes and all, but not sure about the wood on a wall. She can’t actually bite the walls, though, and she doesn’t pee outside her litter box any more (not even when she’s out of her cage, as long as the pan is by her). I think it would make a cool little rabbit hutch. She comes out several hours a day in the area, and I already have a ramp made for her other cage. I just wish I knew how she’d treat the wood walls. She’s used to seeing out all sides. I don’t think it would get THAT hot in there with 3 of the walls solid. The basement is the coolest room temperature and plus there’s an a/c and heat vent down there. I don’t wanna order a wooden cage and then it not work out for her, and I don’t wanna buy the plastic one if she’s gonna chew on it. But then what do people keep rabbits in if it’s not wood or plastic, lol! My mom built one for Dinky I (I had a black male bunny we kept outside when I was younger) and it did just fine. Part was solid walls and part was fence with the wire floor and stuff. I don’t really like the idea of a wire floor, though. The poos aren’t hard to clean up. I just want her to have more room.

Wow, I rambled, lol! Anyhoo, nothing much else going on here. Calling for more rain, but hopefully my mom and I get to get out to Home Depot to get some supplies this weekend. Will keep updating on the cage progress (for those who care). Big HELLO to Johnny and hope he feels less tired, soon.

To every season.

I was in the basement earlier (where I keep my rat and rabbit cos it’s cooler/warmer than the attic) and there was a cricket trying to get out of the cardboard door thingy. I noticed it had only on leg and was a regular cricket (light brown, but like the black ones; we only see the non-audible ones called cave/camel crickets down there). I let it go under the cardboard. I was just down there again and saw it not far from where it had gone before. It was on its side and it’s little mouth bits were twitching. I could swear it looked like it had its arms up praying. I scooped it up and was gonna put it outside to die in nature, but figured ants or a bird would get it (not that it matters once it dies but I don’t want it to suffer). I put it in a bit of sun on a rag on the plant table. Then put it in a potted plant. Of course it tipped a bit and was slanted downward, so I evened the dirt out behind it so it was more level. I figured it could suck on the plant or something, I dunno. It just makes me so sad to see something die, no matter how small it is. I have a habit of putting myself in their situation and I know I wouldn’t wanna die alone on a cold concrete floor in a dark basement. I have way too much empathy, but that’s what makes me….me. God speed, little cricket.

Blah Blog

Haven’t felt well, lately. Dunno why. Got two hours of sleep one morning, got up to go shopping, came home and went back to bed all day, got up and went to work, came home, ate, went to bed all night. Got up early for shopping, came home and went to bed. Got up for a bit to eat and play with the critters, went back to bed. Just got up. Not feeling like being up, though. Friday I took .25mg of Klonopin while I was out shopping but felt no difference at all. Eating Fruit Loops now. Dudley is still having problems. Dinky actually laid in my lap to be pet today. That was cute. She also ran around, jumped on me and screeched to a halt on my chest. I said ouch and she stared at me. She was a lot more well-behaved today. Mom bought her an edible log and she seems to love it. I remember when getting online was so much fun. Not so much when you aren’t into any fandoms, though. Got my 4g, 2g and 0g tapers in the mail yesterday. Got the tunnels today. Had a problem with the right side but it went in after a while. Back to Fruit Loops.
